LocknPop Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How is LocknPop different than other liquid cold palletising adhesives?
Most other liquid cold adhesives are nothing more than diluted glues or pressure sensitive materials (sticky) originally intended for other uses. LocknPop is designed specifically for palletising boxes, bags and frozen or chilled packages. LocknPop is a water-based adhesive that forms a chemical bond with package surfaces that holds firm until it’s time to un-stack the pallets. Unlike other adhesives, LocknPop does not leave a sticky residue or harm package surfaces. It is invisible upon package separation. Application is easy and requires low maintenance.
Q: How is LocknPop different than 3M Gummy Glue?
Gummy Glue is a 100% solid adhesive that is applied at 129.45 degrees Celsius (265 degrees Fahrenheit), and leaves a gummy residue on the packaging surface that must be manually removed in order to achieve a clean package surface. In contrast, LocknPop is a water-based adhesive that is applied cold, eliminating the danger of burns. LocknPop is invisible upon package separation eliminating the need to "remove" anything.
Q: My stretch wrap or hot melt products seem to be working fine. Why should we change to LocknPop?
Just because something is working does not mean it cannot be improved upon. LocknPop increases the stability of pallets when used either alone or in conjunction with stretch wrap. By utilizing LocknPop, you can significantly reduce shipping damage and improve internal efficiency, while reducing hazards to employees and improving the environment.
Q: How is LocknPop different than hot melt palletising glues?
Even though there have been improvements in hot melt palletising glues over the past few years, they do not come close to working as well as LocknPop. Unlike hot melt, LocknPop does not leave any visible residue. LocknPop is much less susceptible to package tearing upon separation. Also, LocknPop is applied cold. Accidental contact with the applicator or the adhesive will not cause burns. If you care about how your packaging looks at its point of final destination, you should give LocknPop a try. It is, simply, the best solution.
Q: What are the deficiencies of using stretch wrap?
Stretch wrap or film attempts to contain the load by placing exterior stress or pressure on the outside surface area of the unit load. This pressure can deform packaging and cause packages to lose integrity and collapse. Box strength is primarily concentrated in the corners of the box. In order to maximize strength while stacking, boxes require very good alignment. LocknPop works by bonding each box in the unit load together, thereby maintaining alignment of the cases. This eliminates the need for exterior wrap compression, and preserves the look and integrity of the boxes.
Q: Do I have to buy special equipment to apply LocknPop?
Several companies make equipment that can be used to apply LocknPop and we also manufacture and sell our own specially designed equipment. We offer many equipment options available to LocknPop customers, including affordable lease and rental packages in addition to outright purchase.
Q: Is LocknPop easy to clean up?
Yes. Because LocknPop is water-based removing it from equipment or other items is extremely fast and effortless. The LocknPop adhesive won’t clog machinery or create any type of mess in the packaging process, even when wet. LocknPop eliminates the mess of typical hot or cold glues.
Q: Is LocknPop environmentally friendly?
LocknPop is extremely safe for the environment. It is a non-toxic, water-based adhesive that is biodegradable. Packages shipped using LocknPop can be recycled as before. LocknPop produces zero waste (nothing to bundle, store or dispose of), a benefit that your customers are sure to appreciate.
Q: Does LocknPop have volatile organic compounds (VOCs)?
No! All of LocknPop’s formulas are free of VOCs, meaning there are no EPA restrictions to worry about in your palletising process. No VOCs ensure a healthier workplace for you and your employees.
Q: Is it safe to ship food products using LocknPop?
Yes. Under the Food and Drug Administration’s Code of Federal Requirements (volume 21, section 175.105), LocknPop ingredients are approved for indirect contact with food.
Q: Can LocknPop be customized to meet specific customer palletising and shipping needs?
Absolutely. Most LocknPop customers will benefit from one of our several standard formulas. However, in some cases customized formulas are required to meet unique palletising needs. In every case, we ask that customers supply us with a sample of their package so that we can match the right formula to the package type. This is a free service that we provide.
Q: How long has LocknPop been around?
LocknPop has been in business since 1965. LocknPop palletising adhesives have been sold for the past 20 years, with over 200 million pallets shipped using LocknPop.
